Having a Climate Desk supported NPR’s reporters and editors in recognizing the climate aspects in every story. I’m sorry to hear that they found that expendable. Still, the history of the Climate Desk’s work won’t be lost. NPR’s news operation will carry on. They’ll keep reading your Substack for ideas.
The Patagonia case is wild to me. This can't be the first time the two actors have interacted. Whatever the merits of the case, this isn't the sort of thing you want litigated in the public square. Just makes it seem like Patagonia learned all the wrong lessons from the Budweiser controversy.
For a different perspective, doesn’t Pattie Gonia’s timing seem like she is trying to use Pride Month as a shield? Why not do this in September before Christmas buying season? I could care less about her personal or professional life, I see the infringements plain as day.
Sad state of affairs at NPR. We need a rich benefactor to step up. Or several.
Yesterday a woman, writer, director, actor, just pitched PBS and Stephen Colbert to reboot his show as a fundraising event for PBS! That would be awesome!
It reminds me of Kodak’s ridiculous lawsuit against Paul Simon for his song referencing Kodachrome “with its nice bright colors”. It was free cultural advertising!

Yeah agree the timing is suspect. The whole thing just feeds into the culture wars that we should be trying to move past.

But selling clothes technically competing with Patagoinia is not a good move.
